Since 1970, 56 cases of laryngeal cancer have been treated by primary radiotherapy. Except for the 9 cases in which the treatment ended with palliative radiotherapy, 49% of the cases required a secondary surgical intervention. These case may be listed as 4 cases in which surgery was required during the course of radiotherapy; 12 cases in which surgical treatment was performed after a full course of radiotherapy; and, 8 cases in which surgery was performed after a complete a course of radiotherapy due to recurrence of the lesion.

Operative procedures consisted of a total laryngectomy in 17 cases; partial laryngectomy in 4 cases; 2 cases of cordotomy; and, a radical cervical surgery in 1 case.

During the course of radiotherapy it is highly important to note the response of the lesion towards the treatment.
