MUTA reports 2 cases of cholesteatoma located in the labyrinthine vestibule. Cholesteatomata which limited itself in the labyrinthine vestibule proper was fortuitously discovered during the course of radical mastoidectomy for cure of middle ear affection of that disease in 2 cases, a man aged 25 and a woman aged 33. In both of these cases symptoms and signs which pointed to vestibular affections were per culiarly absent. From these findings, the author states, that, it might be thought that either, functions of labyrinthine vestibule proper are completely assumed by some higher centers,or, reflexes originating therein may be unexpectedly weak in the homo sapiens. what was termed as vestibular functional tests in the past are in reality tests-for eimicircular canals. The need of. proper test for vestibular function is stressed.
