  • Look Inside

A gelatin film was used in Type Ⅲ tympanoplasty for preventing postoperative adhesions between the tympanic membrane and the promontory wall. After the affected parts were removed the gelatin film was applied on the promontorium covering the raw area.

Three months after the operation the middle ear cavity was found to be devoid of any adhesion and the gelatin film appeared to have been dissolved. In some cases there were no improvement of hearing acuity which were revealed by postoperative hearing tests. In one case, 3 months after the operation, there was a dislocation of the columella in spite of a well maintained middle ear cavity.
