  • Look Inside

A case of fibrous dysplasia that later resulted in an osteogenic sarcoma is reported. A fibrous dysplasia of the left maxilla was recognized when the patient was at the age of 10. Fifteen years later this lesion was found to be changed into an osteogenic sarcoma. The authors made review of literature on the report of similar cases and come to the following conclusions:

 1. There is a tendency in which the fibrous dysplasia may become malignant when exposed to irradiation treatments. Therefore, the treatment of these cases should be limited to surgery.

 2. Fibrous dysplasia and other osteogenic malignancies are reluctant in response to either irradiation treatment or chemotherapy; they should he treated by surgery.
