  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Recently, many patients with whiplash disease seem to be seeking the aid of ENT specialists. The symptoms of this disease are multiform in nature and vary from complaints in the neck, throat and headache, vertigo, tinnitus aurium and loss of hearing with abnormal sensations in the throat. The author, himself having been a victim of this malady, comes to following conclusions after review of literatures on the subject.

 1) The term whiplash disease is not altogether appropriate but under the present circumstances it seem to serve the purpose.

 2) All symptoms appear to be aggravated by changes in weather and exhaustions caused physically or mentally. For this reason, in severe cases the pronouncement of cure should be reserved for a period not less than a year especially when the case is being contested.

 3) The cause of vertigo appears to be some disturbance of vertebral artery sympathetic net-work.
