　Mucosus中耳炎とは1903年Schottümllerにより発見され1927年Eckert-Moebiusにより連球菌ではなく肺炎菌であると指摘された第3型肺炎菌，いわゆるMucosus菌による急性ではあるが見かけ上protrahiertな中耳炎をいい，鼓膜の軽微な所見に比して重篤な骨侵襲および諸般の合併症をおこしやすい特徴は医学の進歩した今日も尚我等医師の心すべき疾患であることは以前にも述べたところであるが，「Mucosus中耳炎が今時でもありますか」との辞を時々耳にするのは慨嘆に堪えない。私等は最近経験した数例を報告し諸家の注意を喚起したいと思う。

　Five cases of mucosus otitis media were operated upon. The characteristic features of this conditions are that the involvement of the deeper structures is much more advanced than what may be apparently seen by observation of the drum. There is a tendency in which the surgeon may ignore such symptoms as headaches and loss of hearing until the underlying mucosus otitis may involve other side-effects complicating the situation. The authors strongly emphasize against the occurrence of such complications.
