慢性潜伏性カタル性上顎洞炎により起つた三叉神経痛症例

　Ⅰ．緒言

　三叉神経痛は全神経痛の1/3を占めるともいわれているぐらい多いものであるが，その原因はさまざまで耳鼻咽喉科領域に原因があるものも必ずしも少いものではない。

　耳鼻咽喉科領域でよくみられる三叉神経痛は，第1枝。第2枝のものであることが多い。しかもその大部分のものはその原因が急性炎症，腫瘍のためにおこるものであつて，耳鼻咽喉科領域に明らかな疾患所見が少なく，慢性炎症殊に潜在性疾患がその原因となつたものは，成書に記載されているほどにはみられないようである。

　A woman, aged 76, and a man, aged 62, complained of the symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia. Intranasal examination and general facial features in both cases proved to be negative. However, by x-ray examination the maxillary sinus showed such an opacity that maxillary tumor was suspected.

　Both patients were operated on the maxillary sinus. Postoperative tissue examination showed the conditions to be chronic maxillary sinusitis.

　Following the operative treatment both cases were relieved of their original complaint of trigeminal neuralgia. It is not uncommon to find symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia arising from the affects of the dormant chronic sinusitis.
