Nomoto and Yoshizawa maintain that the use of iodized oil is an indispensable means by which to derive a definite diagnosis of maxillary sinusitis. The interpretation of simple X-Ray picture of maxillary sinus is often met with di-fficulty: trocar puncture and irrigation may result in clear return fluid. In the latter case such a result may indicate that, either, the cavity be free from disease affection or contain-ing mucous discharges so tenacious in charact-er that they are unaffected by the irrigating fluid. To dissolve this type of mucous a 50% urea solution may be used. But, a definite diagnosis of maxillary sinusitis may be facilitat-ed by making instillation of 40% molyodol, a form of iodized oil, and thereafter, obtaining Xray picture.
