 A study was conducted on 120 children who are regarded as congenitally deaf for their actual conditions in the pre-school age a stage prior to the beginning of the special education for these children. The results are as follow:

 The number that deafness is suspected by the parents at about the age of 6 months is only 6%; a larger number is found from 13 to 18 months. However, the average age in which the deafness may be found by parents or othermeans is 19 th month. The age of the child in whom hard of hearing or deafness reaching a definite diagnosis is the average 39th month or 20 months after this condition might be suspected. The average age of these children for whom the parents seek the aid of special institution is 4 years and 4 months or 52 months.
