A comparative study is made on treatment of maxillary sinusitis by methods of drug in-stillation and of Proetz' displacement irrigati-on: the manner in which the discharge is ex-pelled from the sinus cavity is studied by means of X-ray pictures.

(1) There are more cases of maxillary sinu-sitis that may be classified as being latent than any other type.

(2) The cases in which the discharge to be no longer found by instillation of treatment numbered 48.9% when drugs were employed in the instillation and 41.3% when in similar way the drug was replaced by normal saline solution.

(3) For establishment of allayed subjective symptoms Proetz method appear to surpass that of drug-instillation.

(4) Ten sittings should consitute a course for treatments that employ eitther, drug-insti-llation or Proetz method.

(5) The number of recurrences that occu-rred after abatement of symptoms by drug-instillation method was 63%: by Proetz' me-thod, 67%.

(6) When moljodol was instilled into sinus cavities the function by which this agent was completely dispelled was preserved in 23% of the sinuses that by trochar irrigation showed signs of purulency and in 62.3% in those that showed negative results by the latter proce-dure.

(7) Among the cases that showed positive results by trochar irrigation for a period of 1 year or more in duration the function of dis-pelling appeared to be exceedingly poor. From this fact it may be said that when sinusitis is continued for more than 1 year in duration the chances of its chronicity becoming esta-blished is very large.
