Takakura and Yohsida investigate the cli-nical significance of ocular nystagmus by us-ing individuals in a normal health and those affected with complaints of marked vertigo. as clinical material;they come to following tenative conclusions:

(1) Ocular nystagmus is a phenomenon pro- duced by reflex response to visual stimu- lation and it is involuntary in control.

(2) No difference in the left and right sides is noted in persons of normal health.

(3) In a normal health there is a relation between the rate of movement of the vi- sual field and the number of excursions of the nystagmus that may be shown re- gularly, graphically by a straight line.

(4) In a certain diseased conditions these rela- tions as observed in (2) and (3) may be found to be changed: such changes may be classified into 6 different groups.

(5) Vertigo causes abnormal reflex moveme- nts of the eyeball.
