Moriyama and Yano maintain that the onset of deafness as a complication of streptomycin therapy may be made preventable by institut-ing periodic observations with audiograms after initiation of that therapy. They find that deafness manifested here is characterized by C6 dip or sudden fall of tones higher than that. Studies with audiograms were conducted among 80 patients who were under dihydro-streptomycin therapy by intramuscular injec-tions: 30 showed appreciable changes. Among this cases only 4 complained of subjective deaf-ness while the remaining 26 must be considered as deafness with latent symptoms as far as the patients were concerned.
