Dano and Ishikawa maintain that in making examination of nasal diseases the foremost thought should to placed upon consiperation of the functional status of the paranasal sinuses. Two hundred maxillary sinuses which included the normal and the diseased such as affected with catarrhal inflammation, acute and chronic infection, argyrosis, operative removal of part or whole of sinus mucous membranes, and with lack of air circulation within the cavity because of previous laryngectomy are studied with roentgenogram by use of radio opaque molyiodol, noting in particular the established con. ditions of the diacharge and corresponding functional state. In some the stupy included examination of biopsy specimens.

Thus, a clear cut view of the features that characterized the normal or the, diseased state of the sinus cavity was obtained.

It is also evident that the chief means by which exudates are expelled from the sinus cavity are dependent upon the cilliary activity of the cilliated cells and when intrasinus air circulation is unhindered the function of expulsion appeared to be further aided thereby.
