Surgical removal of naso-pharyngeal fibroma is generally regarded as one of the most onerous operations in the field of otolaryngology. To overcome some of these burdens Goto proposes a method by which the growth is exposed throhgh a combined transmaxillary and oral route by separating the soft palate. In this way the base of the growth is made accessible which is then constricted off by means of a steel wire. The mass is cut off above the constriction with a pair of scissors. Remaining base eventually slough off also, along with the steel tie in about 2 weeks of time. Fibroma in this area arises from the bony structures at the base of the skull with firm attachments. By reason of individual and constitutional susceptitibility for its presence recurrences after surgical removal are quite common and the subject of profuse hemorrhages. The present method the author states eliminates troublesome hemorrhages both, during and after operation.
