Torii and Morimoto while reporting 5 cases of complicated sequel of otitis media call atten-tion to altered picture of this disease subsequ-ently to the advent of antibiotics-penicillin. In as much as allay or even apparent cure of acute symptoms in soft tissues may be established with in a short period of time by aid of penici-llin remissions of pathological process in osseous tissues may not always coincide with that pic-ture. For this reason mastoiditis when develo-ped may progress, under mask of a cure, to irretrievable meningitis and death. However the authors in no way attempt to devaluate the role of penicillin in ear diaseases in which mastoi-ditis has been avoided in a very large measure by its use. In order to avoid catastrophes from masked effects, they seem to stress the need of thorough X-ray examinations and careful watch over the progress of the ear disease, once when it is established, until at such time as when a complete cure is pronounced on it by final X-ray examination.
