  • Look Inside

Glucocorticoids have been widely applied in severe neurosurgical cases with brain edema, hemorrhagic shock and so on since about 20 years ago. However, it seems to have been widely accepted that if so-called neurogenic gastrointestinal hemorrhage once occurred in these cases glucocorticoids must be discontinued. Some of our clinical experience and preliminary comparative observation of glucocorticoids application made us doubt the scientific necessity of the discontinuation. To answer this question we studied plasma corticol levels by means of radioimmunoassay.

In this present work, 380 patients with intracranial lesions were subjected.
