Summary

The correlation between the grade of differentiation of astrocytic gliomas and the brain specific proteins was examined by the immunoperoxidase method using paraffin sections and antisera to S-100, GFAP and ALD-C (aldolase C). The staining of the main component cells was evaluated in each tumor.

In astrocytomas, 9 of 10 tumors revealed all 3 proteins. The remaining 1 tumor showed GFAP staining alone. The stainings were intranuclear and intracytoplasmic for S-100 and intracytoplasmic for GFAP and ALD-C.

On examination of 24 anaplastic gliomas (glioblastomas), only 6 tumors showed stainings for the 3 proteins.
