Methylazoxymethanol

はじめに

　ソテツの配糖体のaglyconeであるメチルアゾキシメタノール（MAM）は，アルキル化作用を主体とする核酸合成阻害物質の一つとして，その毒性の追究とともに，脳発達障害の疾患モデルの作成のために，有用な実験手段として用いられている。MAMのcytotoxic effectは脳の発育の特定の時期に限られており，ラットの胎生期の投与によって小頭症の出現，出生直前の投与で，網膜の障害^22,77），新生仔期の投与で小脳の低形成を招来する。ここではその毒性のうち，サイカシンまたはMAMの，動物についての発癌実験と，神経毒としての，MAMの脳発達に及ぼす影響を中心に述べたい。

Abstract

The cycads are primitive plants, distributing widely now in the tropics and subtropics. While they have been useful in certain ways for the human life, cycads have dangerous toxicities in the glucoside are extracted from their seeds, roots and leaves.

In the 1960's, Hirano, Laqueur, Matsumoto, Spatz and other researchers began to study the neurotoxicity of cycads, based on the finding that, in the regions where cycads are abundant, neuro-logical toxicity resembling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in the natives and the paralysis of hind legs in cows are frequently seen.
