Morphology of the red blood cell in Duchenne muscular dystrophy as revealed by scanning electron microscopy and a freeze-fracture technique

I．はじめに

　赤血球は，他の臓器に比べ比較的容易に試料を得ることができるので，ヒトの生体膜の研究材料として最もよく利用されてきた。近年Duchenne型筋ジストロフィー症（以下DMDと略す）を，罹患臓器が筋組織に限定されず，より広範な生体膜の異常を伴なうsystemic membrane diseaseとしてとらえようとする試みが盛んになるに伴ない，DMDの赤血球も注目されるようになった。本稿では，DMD患者の赤血球に関する最近の研究のうちで，その形態に関するものについての知見をまとめ，その意義を考察してみたい。DMDの赤血球についての形態学的研究は，光学顕微鏡と走査電子顕微鏡（SEM）による赤血球の全体像の観察と，凍結割断法による形質膜の膜構造の超微形態に関するものに大別されるが，まず血球の全体像に関する研究を振り返ってみたい。

Abstract

In the past decade, much controversy has been focused on the incidence of deformed erythrocytes in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. After reviewing basic problems in the maintenance of red blood cell shape, inappropriate handling of the specimens was suspected as a possible cause of the reported increase in the incidence of echinocyte and stomatocyte in DMD. Based on our experiments, however, it was suggested that the morphology of erythrocytes in DMD patients could be more labile under certain non-physiological conditions.
