Abstract

In recent years, there has been a tremendous upsurge in interest in biologically active peptides in brain tissue. These neuropeptides respectively reveal specific regional distribution, synaptosomal localization, high affinity receptor binding and neuronal effects, all of these favoring their trans-mitter role. Particularly substance P has been investigated extensively in the posterior horn of the spinal cord and is considered as a primary afferent transmitter.
