Summary

The release of hormones and neurotransmitter substances, both working cooperatively for main-taining homeostasis of the body, takes place on a common ground. A general scheme of the release which currently is thought to be most probable is as follows. Neurotransmitters and most hormones are stored in synaptic vesicles and secretory granules. When an action potential invades the nerve terminal or a secretory stimulus is applied to the secretory cell, the terminal or the cell membrane depolarizes.
