Clinical study of late onset epilepsy: Etiological aspect

I．はじめに

　けいれん性疾患の多くは幼少児期に発症し，成人に達してから発症する場合には，いわゆる症候性のものが多いといわれている^1〜3）。

　それゆえ，この成人期に至って発症した場合，これをlate onset epilepsyとし，その成因，脳波所見，予後などについて特別な関心が寄せられ，これまで多くの報告^5,9,10,12）がみられている。

　しかし，このlate onset ということの規定についてはその年齢を20歳^5，9）以上，35歳^1）以上，45歳^2）以上，50歳^14）以上とするものなど，様々であるばかりでなく，一方，その外因となる疾患についても，検査内容，経過観察期間の差などの違いがあり，各報告の結果は必ずしも一律には比較し難い。

　A survey was done on 330 cases of epilepsy who started to have their seizure after the age of 20 or older.

　A discussion is made of the following aspects :the onset age of seizure, the type of seizure, the outcome of seizure, family history, clinical symptoms, EEG findings, carotid angiogram, pneumoencephalogram and brain scintigram.

　Carotid angiogram was carried out on 108 cases and 187 cases were followed up for more than 2 years.
