多発性硬化症の頻度と疫学的病因論

Ⅰ．緒言

　近年，多発性硬化症（MSとする）の研究が進み，かなり具体的な病因仮設が提起されている。本論文では，病因の解明に重点を置きつつ，集団レベルにおけるMSの研究を展望する。

　わが国のMSは種々の面で欧米と異なるといわれ，疫学的には，頻度が低く，その南北勾配が不明瞭なことが指摘されている。

Summarizing current data of the epidemiologic studies in MS in various countries of the world, the present report represents prevalence rates obtained more recently in Japan and describes areal difference in the MS frequency based on the case registry of the disease.

The latitudinal change of the prevalence rate is one of unique epidemiologic patterns of MS, but evidence for a decrease from west to east in the Eurasian Continent is far less convincing.
