はじめに

　筋萎縮性側索硬化症（ALS）による内包後脚内の皮質脊髄路の変性が，T2強調像にて高信号領域として捉えられるようになった。しかし，同部位には正常人においても高信号領域がある。その正常高信号領域は何を現し，正常と異常との境界はどこにあるのかについて最初に述べる。次に，運動皮質の変性はどのようにMRIにて描出されるのか？さらに脳梁の変性はどのように描出されるのかについて述べる。

To investigate imaging characteristics of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), we reviewed magnetic resonance (MR) images of the brain of 50 ALS patients.

Based on studies of ALS and cerebral infarction, it has been recognized that the corticospinal tract (CST) lies in the posterior third quarter of the internal capsule. In silver-stained normal brain speci-mens, we found a less intensely stained region in the posterior third quarter of the posterior limb that had large axons and thick myelin sheaths.
