Cinemagnetic resonance imaging (cine-MRI) is available to evaluate a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics in spinal dural canal. Spinal CSF has a fast and active movement corresponding to cardiac pulsation, which includes a pulsatile CSF flow originating from a CSF volume change by brain bulging and/or a pulsatile CSF motion transsmitted from vessels and choroid plexus. The CSF pulsatile movement, craniocaudal direction in systolic phase and reversed one in diastolic phase, is detected as a CSF flow void phenomenon (CFVP) in cine-MRI, showing a constant linear pattern around normal cervical cord. An alterlation of the pattern of CFVP occurs when pulsatile movement increases or a turbulance develops due to a reduced volume of the CSF space and a flow disturbance by abnormal structures in the cervical CSF space.
