  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Anatomico-physiological studies on the dentate system (the lateral part of cerebellar hemisphere and dentate nucleus) are reviewed from the viewpoint of evaluating its position in the whole brain system for controlling voluntary limb movements. Phylogenetically, the dentate system appears in mammals, and is highly developed in the primate which moves its limbs most dextrously. The dentate system forms close cerebro-cerebellar internal loops with the cerebral association cortices, and its caudal part projects to the arcuate premotor area through the X area in thalamic VL nucleus (Schell and Strick, 1984).
