  • Look Inside

PSA levels, prostate PSA density (PSAD),PSA densityadjusted to transition zone (PSAT) were investigated in26patients with benign prostate hypertrophy and 41patientswith localized prostate cancer.Their PSA values werebetween 4 and 10 ng/ml.In BPH patient group, PSAD was0.13ng/ml/cc (SD:0.09),whereas it was 0.23 ng/ml/cc(SD:0.15) in patients having cancer (p〈0.O01).PSAT inBPH group was O.21ng/ml/cc (SD:0.15) and 1.09 ng/ml/cc(SD:0.83) in prostate cancer group (p<0.0001).PSATwill increase specificity and sensitivity of PSA as a tumourmarker. It might be helpful to avoid unnecessary prostatebiopsy.
