  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Cutaneous nephropyelostomy is often performed on an emergent basis in patients with anuria or oliguria caused by bilateral partial or total ureteric obstruction.

In these cases, patients are usually in poor risk, unable to bear the anesthesia or operative procedures, therefore, the percutaneous nephrostomy employed with local anesthesia is the most ideal method.

During the past 4 years, we have practiced 31 percutaneous nephrostomies under ultrasonic guidance in 25 patients and there have been no failure or complications. 3 cases in this groups had a permanent nephrostomy by gradually substituting larger catheters.
