Purpose:To quantitate the ocular cyclodeviation following macular rotation surgery using a scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO).

Cases and Methods:Macular rotation surgery was performed in 14 eyes during a 11-month period. The cases comprised age-related macular degeneration 11 eyes and myopic choroidal neovascularization 3 eyes. The amount of cyclodeviation was measured using the printed fundus images taken by scotometry program of SLO before and after surgery. It was defined as the angle between the horizontal line and the line running through the fovea and the center of the disc.

Results:Postoperative cyclodeviation ranged from 15.5 to 44.7 degrees, average 30.4 degrees. It averaged 30.6 degrees in 9 cases with persistent diplopia, and 29.0 degrees in the other 5 cases. The difference was not significant.

Conclusion: SLO scotometry program was useful in quantitating the angle of cyclodeviation following macular rotation surgery. The amount of cyclodeviation was not related to postoperative diplopia.
