  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We aspirated the aqueous humor from 9 eyes of 9patients with clinically suspected viral uveitis. Weused the polymerase chain reaction method todetermine the ethiological agents. Five of the ninespecimens were positive for amplified herpes sim-plex virus (HSV) and were negative for varicella-zoster virus (VZV). In these five cases, recurrentepisodes of unilateral iritis, middling rises of IOPand keratic precipitates were in common. Further, small pathy atrophy of iris was also seen in threecases. In addition, these cases responded to treat-ment with topically applied acyclovir. There is a high probability that HSV was involved in thepathogenesis of viral uveitis in these 5 cases.
