　眼合併症のない白内障眼から白内障手術時に採取した前房水についてヒト上皮増殖因子（EGF）を測定した。対象は16眼（平均年齢72.5歳）であった。検出にはエンザイムイムノアッセイ法を用いた。ヒトEGF標準品の回帰分析の結果，78.1〜625Pg／mlの範囲でEGF濃度と測定された吸光度が相関した。その結果，被験試料16眼中12眼（75％）でEGFが検出され，最低165Pg／mlから最高1,078Pg／mlであり，平均391.8pg／mlであった。眼合併症のない白内障眼の前房水よりEGFが検出されたことで，正常眼の房水中にもEGFが存在する可能性が示唆された。

We quantitated the human epidermal growthfactor (h-EGF) in the aqueous humor in 16 other-wise uncomplicated cataractous human eyes. Theage averaged 72.5 years. Enzyme immunoassaymethod was used in quantitation of h-EGF. Recur-sive analysis of absorption at 490 nm using stan-dard h-EGF, we observed a proportionate relation-ship between absorbance and the concentration ofh-EGF over a range from 78.1 to 625 pg/ml. Levelsof h-EGF from 165 to 1078 pg/ml, average 391.8pg/ml, were observed in 12 eyes, 75%. The findingssuggest that h-EGF may also be present in theaqueous humor of normal human eyes.
