  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

In order to clarify the role of psychological fac-tors, we perfomed psychological tests in dry eye 48 patients, primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) 32, primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) 16 and 10 normal persons. The psychological tests were posi-tive in 52% in patients with dry eye, 18% in POAG, 25% in PACG and 10% in normal persons. There was a tendency for dry eye patients with positive results to show higher values for Schirmer test and smaller values for tear break-up time (BUT). The positive group with POAG and PACG tended to belong to younger age group and to show greater visual field loss. The findings seemed to suggest that psychological factors and autonomic systemic dysfunction were more involved in patients with dry eye and glaucoma.
