  • Look Inside

We performed extracapsular cataract extraction in 11 eyes of 6 patients with transplanted kidney. Intraocular lens was implanted in 6 of these 11 eyes. All the cases were under systemic corticosteroid therapy at the time of cataract surgery. Diabetesmellitus and ocular hypertension were major presurgical associated features. Rupture of lens capsule and vitreous loss developed in one eye, followed by retinal detachment, fibrinous reaction and hyphema and aftercataract. Cataract surgery was otherwise free of troubles. Final visual acuity of 20/20 was obtained in all the eyes. The findings suggest that cataract surgery cna be performed safely in patients after renal transplantation.
