  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We compared the effects of topical instillation of 1% adosorbocarpine twice daily and 1% pilocar-pine 4 times daily in 5 patients with primary open angle glaucoma. The right eye was instilled with the former and the left with the latter for three consecutive days. We measured the intraocularpressure, power of accommodation and pupil diam-eter 4 times daily.

There was no significant difference between the two agents regarding the changes in intraocular pressure, pupil size and amount of increase in accommodative power. There was a significant difference between the two agents regarding the length of latent period for light reaction when measured by open-loop pupillography.

The findings suggest that topical 1% adosor-bocarpine twice daily is a rought equivalent of topical 1% pilocarpine 4 times daily in the control of intraocular pressure in glaucoma.
