  • Look Inside

Corneal hematoma developed in two cases, aged 75 and 81 years, after uneventful cataract surgery. They had been wearing extended-wear soft contact lens for 3 months and 2 years respectively after surgery. The former case had a history of keratitis Intracorneal hematoma presumably arose from deep stromal neovascularization.

There have been reports that cosmetic daily-wearsoft or hard contact lenses occasionally induce superficial and even deep stromal corneal vascular-ization in eyes with no previous eye diseases. Our cases suggest that possible corneal neovasculariza-tion should be watched in the follow up of cases using extended-wear contact lenses. Temporary discontinuation of contact lens wear is recommend-ed whenever neovascularization, particularly in the deep stroma, is detected.
