  • Look Inside

We performed cataract surgery on 128 eyes of 83 patients. During surgery, both eyes were kept open with the fellow eye used for fixation. The fixation target was placed 30 cm or more before the fellow eye. Surgery was performed either under instillation, tenon capsule or subconjunctival anesthesia. Three types of fixation target was used : a television screen reflected by a mirror, small liquid crystal color television, and a printed picture. The eye position during surgery remained more stable in the above order. The present surgical method had the merit in stabilizing the eye position during surgery, smoother operative procedures, and in eliminating anxiety and stress of the patient.
