A 57-year-old female presented with central scotoma in her right eye since 5 days before. The corrected visual acuity was 0.3 right. Submacular hemorrhage was present in the affected eye. 0.5 ml of pure sulfur hexafluoride was injected intravitreally and the patient was kept in prone position. Submacular hemorrhage had shifted inferiorly on day 3 of treatment. The visual acuity had improved to 0.6 on day 6. The eye developed posterior vitreous detachment with no complications. The hemorrhage had disappeared 2 months later. Photocoagulation was performed to the area of choroidal neovascularization detected by fluorescein angiography. The visual acuity improved to 1.2 after the initial treatment. This case illustrates the potential usefulness of pneumatic displacement for submacular hemorrhage.
