Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of intravitreal injection of ranibizumab and sulfur fluoride for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy(PCV)with subfoveal hematoma. Cases and Method:This study was made on 17 eyes of 17 cases who received intravitreal injection of ranibizumab and sulfur fluoride for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy(PCV)with subfoveal hematoma in the past 14 months. The series comprised 14 males and 3 females. The age ranged from 57 to 91 years, average 72 years. All the cases were followed up for 6 months or longer. Results:Subfoveal hematoma removed and attenuated within one week in all the eyes. Visual acuity improved or remained unchanged in 12 eyes(71%)and deteriorated in 5 eyes(29%). Detachment of retinal pigment epithelium(RPE)was present in the fovea in 4 out of the 5 eyes. Foveal thickness decreased significantly after treatment(p<0.05). Subfoveal hemorrhage recurred in one eye. Conclusion:Visual acuity improved and foveal thickness decreased after intravitreal injection of ranibizumab and suffur fluoride. The treatment was of limited value in eyes with RPE detachment in the fovea.
