We measured the blood flow in the optic nerve head in 26 eyes of open-angle glaucoma using a Heidelberg retina flowmeter. Another series of 10 normal eyes served as control. We aimed to determine the optimal target square for this method. The reproducibility of disc blood flow became better when larger target squares were used. The target square of 10 x 10 pixels gave a statistically significant correlation between the blood flow parameters and visual field indices as determined by Humphrey field analyzer. It is concluded that this target square size is optimal in the reproducible measurements of blood perfusion in the optic nerve head.
