  • Look Inside

We tried to establish a new diagnostic index, or classification, using a Heidelberg Retina Tomograph in 67 eyes with glaucoma. Another series of 74 normal eyes served as control. In the affected eyes, 64 eyes were classified as glaucoma. In the control eyes, 59 eyes were classified as normal, resulting in sensitivity at 96% and specificity at 80%. The disc area was significantly correlated to false diagnosis with this index in the control group (p < 0.01) . False diagnosis was independent of age, gender, refractive error or presence of conus around the disc. The present classification thus promises to be a useful diagnostic index in distinguishing the glaucomatous from normal optic disc.
