  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We examined 8 eyes of 5 patients who developed central serous chorioretinopathy during systemic corticosteroid therapy. The series comprised 4 males and 1 female. The ages ranged from 36 to 64 years, average 46.6 years. All the eyes showed serous retinal detachment with detachment or atrophy of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) . Fluorescein angiography showed typical dye leakage through the RPE. Indocyanine green (ICG) angiography showed choroidal hyperfluorescence in wider areas than the affected RPE lesions in 7 eyes (86%) . The findings show that hyperpermeability of choroidal vessels may precede the breakdown of barrier function in the RPE and that choroidal hyperfluorescence in ICG angiogram is a warning sign in patients under systemic corticosteroid therapy.
