  • Look Inside

We evaluated the changes in blood pressure following subconjunctival injection of mydriatic agent containing phenylephrine under general anesthesia. Mydrin-P®, which contains 0.5% tropicamide and 0.5% phenylephrine, was used in 17 eyes. Mydrin-M®, which contains 0.4% tropicamide was used in 13 eyes. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure rose by 22 and 12mmHg respectively 10 minutes after injection of Mydrin-P®. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased by 6mmHg each after Mydrin-M®. The difference was significant and was ascribed to phenylephrine. The changes in blood pressure was not related to systemic hypertension.
