  • Look Inside

We reviewed a series of 7,268 adults who underwent posterior fundus photography without mydriasis during routine health check-up program. By evaluating the fundus photographs, 442 persons, 6.1%, were judged as pathological needing thorough ophthalmological examinations. Glaucoma was suspected in 197 persons, 2.7%, retinal hemorrhage in 48, 0.7%, and retinal degeneration in 32, 0.4% Out of 110 persons who were examined further, 61 persons, 56%, were diagnosed as having ocular diseases. Out of 72 persons who were initially suspected of glaucoma, 35 persons, 49%, were diagnosed as glaucoma or ocular hyperten-sion. The incidence of low tension glaucoma against primary open angle glaucoma was 3 : 1. The current procedure of posterior fundus photography without mydriasis was thus useful in screening ocular diseases including glaucoma.
