  • Look Inside

We evaluated the efficacy of atropine occlusion in 27 cases with anisometropic amblyopia and 22 with strabismic amblyopia. The treatment was effective in 24 cases, 89%, of anisometropic amblyopia and in 17 cases, 77%, of strabismic amblyopia. The treatment was useful in patients with poor compliance for conventional occlusion. Exophoria developed in 2 cases of anisometropic amblyopia. Amblyopia in the sound eye developed in 2 cases of strabismic amblyopia. While atropine occlusion was thus effective for amblyopia, occlusion amblyopia is an infrequent but major complication, particularly in strabismic amblyopia.
