Abstract Purpose:To report changes in fusion-free eye position due to differences in occlusion time during alternate prism cover test(APCT).

Cases and Method:This study was made on 24 cases with intermittent exotropia. Fusion-free eye position was measured during APCT under complete refractive correction with occlusion time of 1, 2, 3 and 4 seconds.

Results:The mean fusion-free position at the near position was 21.9±10.6Δ under 1 sec, 21.4±8.7Δ under 2 sec, 21.2±9.5Δ under 3 sec, and 21.0±9.3Δ under 4 sec occlusion times. As concerned of the distance fixation, the fusion-free position was 9.5±6.9Δ under 1 sec, 9.4±7.1Δ under 2 sec, 9.3±6.6Δ under 3 sec, and 9.4±6.4Δ under 4 sec occlusion times. There was no significant difference in the fusion-free position under 1 to 4 occlusion times at both near and distance target positions.

Conclusions:Among the 24 subjects in this study with intermittent exotropia, we found no difference in the fusion-free position under changing the occlusion time from 1 to 4 sec of the APCT both in fixating near or distance target.
