We developed a video system for indocyanine green angiography (ICG). It has dual light sources, one for free ICG and the other for protein-bound ICG. This system allows improved images both in the early filling phase and in the later phase.

We performed ICG angiography in 48 eyes in 48 healthy volunteers. The series comprised 27 persons aged 20 to 32 years and 21 ones aged 48 to 60 years. Dye filling started in the temporal choroid to be followed in the nasal. A segmental filling delay was present along a vertical zone running through the optic disc. This finding was more obvious in the younger group. During the maximal dye filling in the choroid, the vessels walls showed more intense fluorescence in the senior than in the younger group. Choroidal vessels in senior persons were narrow and tortuous. At about 3 minutes after injection, fluorescence in the posterior funduswas uniform in the younger group, while the posterior fundus in the senior group was irregulary fluorescent. Negative fluorescent spots were present in 3 of 21 senior persons. Above findings appeared to reflect age-related changes in the choroid in apparently normal eyes.
