We treated 139 eyes of 84 patients with normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) with systemic or topical medications. They were given either topical 2% carteolol, 0.04% dipivefrine, or paroral brovin-camine, a vasodilator. The affected eyes showed early to moderately advanced stage of visual field defect with mean deviation (MD) of -15 dB or more. They were followed up for 18 months or longer. The intraocular pressure (IOP) decreased by 1.57±1.55mmHg in 30 eyes treated by carteolol and by 1.03±1.57 mmHg in 30 eyes treated by dipivefrine. The difference was significant (p<0.05) . No significant change in TOP was found in controls matched for age, baseline IOP, MD and refraction. The MD of visual field after 18 months was significantly lower in controls than in eyes treated by either by either of the 3 medications (p<0.05).
