  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We tried to identify the contributing factors for central visual field damage within 10 degrees of point of fixation in 194 eyes in 97 patients with normal tension glaucoma (NTG). Visual field findings were correlated with age, refraction, intraocular pressure (IOP) and parapapillary atrophy to disc ratio (PPA/ D) by multivariate analysis. Age and PPA/D were positively correlated with the severity of central visual field damage as assessed by central 10-2 program of Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer. There was positive correlation between two eyes of each patient regarding the IOP difference and damage in the lower central 10-degree hemifield. The severity of central visual field damage in NTG thus appeared to be related to the size of parapapillary atrophy and to the IOP level.
