We reviewed 120 eyes of 78 glaucoma patients treated by unoprostone ophthalmic solution. The age averaged 56.2 years. The effect was evaluated by comparing the averaged level of intraocular pressure (IOP) measured 3 times each before and after treatment. It was judged as effective when the difference was more than 1.0 mmHg. In 92 eyes which received unoprostone in addition to former medications, 53 eyes, 58%, responded by lowering of IOP by an average of 3.1 mmHg and were judged as effective. In these 92 eyes, 35 eyes received unoprostone in addition to pilocarpine. Lowering of IOP was obtained in 22 eyes, 63%, by an average of 2.4 mmHg. The other 57 eyes received unoprostone in addition to medications other than pilocarpine. Lowering of IOP was obtained in 31 eyes, 54%, by an average of 3.4 mmHg. Unoprostone was used as the first antiglaucomatous agent in 21 eyes. Lowering of IOP was obtained in 15 eyes, 71%, by an average of 3.6 mmHg. Unoprostone was used as substitute to former medications in 28 eyes. Lowering of IOP was obtained in 10 eyes, 36%, by an average of 2.9 mmHg. Corneal epithelial damage appeared in 6 eyes during treatment with unoprostone. It spontaneously disappeared after withdrawal of the agent.
