  • Look Inside

Keratoepithelioplasty results in more favorable outcome than keratoplasty in treating keratocon-junctival disorders. It is still beset with optical problems. We performed deep lamellar keratoplas-ty in 6 eyes to induce better transparency of the cornea. The present series comprised Stevens-John-son syndrome 2 eyes, alkali burn of cornea 2 eyes and corneal infection 2 eyes. The ages ranged from 12 to 75 years. The postoperative follow up aver-aged 21 months. The graft remained transparent in 5 eyes, 83%. The present surgical method keeps the anterior chamber intact and is free of postoperative glaucoma. Graft rejection is infrequent. It has draw-backs as the method is difficult to perform and as it may occasionally result in double anterior cham-ber or interlamellar bleeding.
